Overview

Opened in 1975, Griffith University has grown from 451 students in 1975 to a current enrolment of over 37,700 students, including more than 8,800 international students from 119 countries.

The University is housed on five campuses between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, offering students a range of excellent facilities within which to pursue their goals.

With solid links to commerce,  Government and the community, Griffith offers academic and research programmes that are tuned in to the real world, both locally and internationally, so that its students gain a recognised qualification that equips them to compete successfully in the global marketplace.


Location

The University’s five campuses are located in the populated corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This means that students have access to all the facilities of the State’s capital city, sitting astride the Brisbane River, and one of the State’s premier tourist and holiday regions, located on the east coast of Australia close to Great Barrier Reef.


Campuses

Gold Coast campus is set in bushland close to the world famous beaches of the Coast. This campus specialises in health and hosts the Centre for Medicine and Oral Health, with the Gold Coast Hospital nearby. The Gold Coast University Hospital is due to open in 2012. Other facilities include student accommodation, cafes, sporting facilities including a gym, and student health and welfare services.

Logan campus is situated between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and specialises in eduction and community health. Facilities include nearby privately-owned student accommodation, bookshop and café, sporting facilities, and student welfare and support services.

Mt Gravatt campus is located in Brisbane close to Nathan campus. Social and behavioural sciences form the focus of campus teaching and learning activities, and facilities include café and bookshop, student accommodation, gym and tennis centre, as well as student welfare and support services.

Nathan campus is situated in bushland about 10 minutes drive from Brisbane and a short walk form Mt Gravatt campus. The original Griffith campus, the specialties here are environment, corporate sustainability, biosciences, and Asia. Campus facilities include student accommodation, shopping and sporting facilities, café and bookshop, and student welfare and support services.

South Bank campus is a short walk from Brisbane’s CBD and is well-known for its focus on creative and performing arts, and its emerging reputation for excellence in postgraduate and executive education. Campus facilities include Queensland College of Art, Griffith Film School, the Queensland Conservatorium, student welfare and support services and access to accommodation at Nathan and Mt Gravatt campuses.


Courses

Griffith University offers a range of courses in arts, languages and criminology, business and commerce, education, engineering and IT, environment, planning and architecture, health, law, music, science, and the visual and creative arts.


English Courses

The Griffith English Language Institute offers international students General English, English for Academic Preparation, IELTS and Cambridge test preparation, Mixed English and Academic Programme and a range of other options. Enrolment dates

For 2010 classes commence in the first week of March for Semester 1 and the last week of July for Semester 2. It is advisable to apply well in advance of your proposed commencement date.


Student activities

On-campus student clubs provide social and recreational opportunities, along ith the gym and sporting facilities. Students also arrange spontaneous informal social and recreational activities among themselves.
