Overview

The University of Wollongong commenced business in 1951 and since then has had over 87,000 students graduate its various courses, both undergraduate and postgraduate. UOW’s academic staff are highly qualified and widely recognised for expertise in their chosen fields.

Location

The University is located in Wollongong, south of Sydney and is Australia’s tenth largest city. It nestles on the Pacific coast below the Illawarra escarpment south of Sydney’s Royal National Park and north of Lake Illawarra. There is ready access to pleasant beaches, Australian native bushland, and the city of Sydney which is only 90 minutes by road or rail to the north.


Campus

Wollongong campus is the University’s main location, situated in the city of Wollongong. Facilities include on campus accommodation, student bar, sport and recreation facilities, library with computer network and wireless internet, counselling and health services, bookshop and cafes and restaurants.


Courses

UOW offers courses in Arts/Humanities, Business and Commerce, Creative and Performance Arts, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Information technology, Law, Mathematics and Statistics, Media/Communication Studies, Nursing, and Science.


English Courses

Wollongong College Australia offers international students English for everyday use, English for IELTS Test Preparation, General English, English for Further Study, English Plus +, English for Academic Purposes, English plus Internships, English for Tertiary Studies, English plus Uni, English for Business, Introduction to Academic Studies, and Group Programs.


Entry Requirements

Undergraduate entry generally requires the successful completion of the recognised equivalent of Australian Year 12 High School and an IELTS overall ranging between 6.0 and 7.0, depending on the course.

For postgraduate study you’ll generally need the recognised equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree and an IELTS of between 6.0 and 7.0 overall, depending on the course chosen.

Enrolment dates

Autumn Session: late February – late June.
Spring Session: late July – early November
Summer Session: early December – early February

Students are advised to apply well in advance of their intended commencement to allow time for processing the applications. An AA Education Network counsellor can assist you with this.


Student activities

The UOW runs various programmes to engage international students with the university and the local community, while there are also student clubs that organise a range of social, cultural and recreational activities. Students often organise their own informal and spontaneous activities.
